Action: উষ্ণতা 2010

Winter in Bangladesh
Every winter our country is hit with a massive cold wave especially in the Northern areas. During those times poor people in those areas need clothes immediately and government efforts at providing are by no means enough. Apart from CommunityAction numerous other organizations carry out winter clothes collection drives. However the majority of these projects simply distribute their clothes inside Dhaka city where as the poor people already receive a lot of clothes and often end up selling the clothes as they have no need of it.
Action: উষ্ণতা [Ushnota] was initiated in 2008. The actioneers who had worked on the project in the year 2009, had collected 5,000 clothes and raised approximately tk.100, 000. The aims of the project were to distribute the clothes to poorest regions of the country where the needs are the greatest and the northern areas which are the coldest.
We have received full report of Action: উষ্ণতা 2011. Detailed report shows hearty effort of the enthusiastic Actioneers and surely you will start to dream for the future of Bangladesh!! Hats off to the related others who were sorteers, collecteers and distributeers! If not you, then who will build the future? Actioneers are the most awesome among millions! :)
The project was a massive success. The Ushnota Team team collected a total of over 7900 clothes and raised Tk.150, 000 of which approximately Tk. 40, 000 was used as costs. and distributed it to over 12 districts but mainly to the northern areas of Bangladesh.
As CommunityAction is a student based organization, the team primarily contacted various schools, colleges and universities using its contacts and actioneers. Furthermore the Actioneers collected from their friends, families and neighbors. Also this year for the first time, the team contacted corporate individuals and organizations using its contacts.
The main aim of Action: Ushnota 2010 was to redistribute clothes which otherwise would have been trashed. We also accepted monetary donation on the condition that it will be used to buy clothes and bear transportation costs. Essentially it’s a redistribution of clothes from people who had an excess of them to the poor people of our country who were in dire need of these clothes.
Many other organizations distribute winter clothes, but only inside Dhaka. However it is in the Northern areas of the country that people need help the most. That is what separates CommunityAction’s project from the rest. This project seeks to distribute the clothes mainly to the poorest regions of the country where people need help the most.
The project spanned three months and we managed to distribute the majority of the clothes before the main cold-wave as planned. The Collection phase of the project started in Early November and although the majority of the distribution was done by mid December, it all finally finished in early January as the team had carried out a smaller second distribution phase.
The project was truly a nation-wide campaign engaging youths from all walks of life. Apart from the main organizing team in Dhaka, there were other equally important organizing teams in Chittagong, Khulna, Barisal and Sylhet.
The sheer scale of the project was marvelous. All in all over 200 actioneers helped organize this event nationwide and thousands of people donated clothes.

They didn't have any warm clothes during their previous winters. But this Eid, they got at least one piece of warm clothe each! CA's donors deserve a big hand for their help. Thank you!

''CHAR KARAMJI ASRAYON'', situated a far away from Barisal town, was selected as the first distribution point. Fatima, Trisha & Kulsum went there on a trolar with great difficulty. 40 families live in that asrayon. They tried to distribute the clothes in every family. Then on the way of back, they distributed some clothes among the fishermen who live on the boats.

Co-ordinated by Actioneer: Sanjoy Mitra. Total Clothes Collected: 795 Deputy Co-ordinator: Roton Paul Description: Actioneers carried out collection drives using their personal contacts, friends, family and classmates. They also carried out collection in their local areas. The students also collected from the following two institutions, IIUC & CUET).

He should have been surrounded by family and friends, enjoying the fruits of his life-long toil. He shouldn't have to stand in this line. He shouldn't be here :(

Gongachor, Rangpur: 2200 clothes Conducted By Actioneer: Saif Mithu. Rangpur is one of the poorest regions of the country. Plus it is situated in the North thus making it the prime location for us to carry out a distribution campaign. A group of Actioneers went there to carry out the project. MIthu’s contacted a school situated in Gongachor and based his distribution from there. People were notified beforehand about the distribution program through the token system. Mithu carried out the project in Early December.

Dhaka City: 200 Clothes This was the last distribution which took place. It occurred in Mid January. After almost all the distributions had taken, we received a some clothes late. So we decided that instead of storing those clothes for one whole year, we should distribute them to the street beggars of Dhaka city and surrounding areas. A group Actioneers went around Dhaka city at night with a pick-up and distributed the clothes to the beggars.

Details: The project was conducted in late December on the streets of Khulna City. It is the smallest of our projects. They lacked previous experience and sufficient resources but they did a great job. They distributed the clothes among the street children and poor people of the city. Ambrin Mafuza coordinated the event.
Come, let’s spread some warmth!
